February 2022 – May 2022

Hello Students!

A warm welcome back to BLKT after our prolonged absence from school. It’s wonderful to see the corridors bustling again with the sights and sounds of teachers, students and everyone involved with the school.

The past months have been busy spent rehearsing a variety of activities such as English Drama, Birthday Drama and Radio Drama on Zoom as well as conducting Space Town lessons. This year, our Drama team prepared a new story, Lost and Found and we entered the Hong Kong School Drama Festival. The format was a live ZOOM performance and our students worked very diligently in preparing for the show from mid-September to the day of the show on Friday 11th March! The students had many opportunities to take autonomy of their learning and the project. For example, they helped me to add lines and ideas to the script and the characters. They helped with prop design and they also designed their own beautiful artwork for the song video, ‘Laser Eye’ and their profile and background pictures on ZOOM. In January 2022, we arranged time in the TV studio to record vocals for the song, ‘Laser Eye’ and songs for the Birthday Drama too. Even when at home and unable to come to school, students recorded their voices singing the song, ‘Don’t Lose Sight’ which closed the drama and sent the files to me via whatsapp!

The students took clear ownership of the project and I was hugely impressed by their work ethic, commitment, talent and teamwork throughout. They gave a wonderful show on the 11th March and we were honoured to win awards in all categories including the coveted Adjudicator’s Award. My sincere thanks to all the students and team. I’m very proud of you all.

Our Birthday Drama Team continued to rehearse on Zoom during this period as well and once classes at school resumed we took to the stage to get ready for the big show. On 16th May, our team gave a great show and we had lots of fun in doing so. Our story centred around the theme of ‘kindness’ and was a tribute to the love and care BLKT has shown everyone over the past 50 years! Happy Birthday BLKT!

Since our return to school, our P3 students have been busy learning how to make balloon powered cars in our Space Town lessons (Unit 16). It’s been great fun but sadly, Teacher Ham’s car – ‘The Litter Buggy’ could not win the races against the students’ cars! The students have proved to be much better at making cars than Teacher Sam! Well done everyone! You’re so smart!
